Norman Malcolm to take up umpiring duties in Canada
Observer Reporter
Saturday, August 12, 2006

President of the Jamaica Cricket Umpires Association (JCUA), Norman Malcolm was scheduled to leave the island on Thursday to officiate in an ICC Intercontinental Cricket Tournament in Canada.

Malcolm was expected to officiate in a four-day match featuring Canada against Bermuda between August 12-15 in the province of Toronto.

Malcolm will also run a two-day seminar in Canada for umpires in the Americas between August 18 and 19. Twelve umpires are expected to be in attendance with representatives from several countries, including Puerto Rico, Bermuda and Canada. The seminar is being run under the auspices of the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association, of which Malcolm is the assistant secretary/treasurer and member of the training and examinations committee.

The seminar is being staged as part of the association's mandate to develop umpiring in the Americas.

Malcolm was recently appointed to the ICC's A panel of umpires, which is a rung below the elite panel. He is also the Duckworth Lewis manager for the Caribbean.
