GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) - Guyana emphatically beat Jamaica by eight wickets at the Enmore Community Centre ground yesterday in the penultimate round of the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 tournament.
Set 85 to win after Jamaica, resuming at 183-3, were dismissed for 304, Guyana reached their target for the loss of two wickets to move to an unassailable 42 points going into the final round which starts tomorrow.
Richard Ramdeen finished unbeaten on 34 while Gajanand Singh extended his good form with an unbeaten 25. Guyana have now qualified for the final of the tournament which they will contest against the second-place finishers.
Earlier, Andre Creary carried his overnight 33 to 61 to post his second 50 in the tournament as Jamaica tried to extend their score and avoid defeat.
Steven Jacobs' steady off-spin accounted for Rasheed Outar (1) and Shacoya Thomas (12) to leave Jamaica on 198 for five before skipper Cordell Simpson (9) was caught and bowled by leg-spinner Danney Narayan at 231-6.
Creary, dropped on 40 at square-leg off Jacobs, was then caught behind of left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul with the score on 241 while Andre Lindsay (4) was caught and bowled by Narayan without any addition to the score.
