Confident Ja tackle Guyana in rugby opener
CMC
Thursday, September 28, 2006

KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) - Hosts Jamaica and Guyana will go head-to-head in today's opening match of the 2006 Caribbean Rugby 15s Championships to be staged at University of West Indies, Mona Bowl.

Match time is 4:00 pm and both teams have expressed confidence ahead of the opening clash.

Neol Adonis, Guyana's team manager, said they are going up against an experienced team, but they can be expected to give a good account of themselves.

"Our team is a recent one to rugby and more so 15s, however, we are hard at work over the last three months, and we are confident that our girls are going to put up a good performance.

"We are not underestimating our Jamaican colleagues, but we believe tomorrow's game will be a good game of rugby," Adonis said yesterday.

Meanwhile, Herman Cole, coach of the Jamaican ladies, said he expects Guyana to put up a good fight.
"We are not taking any team lightly, last time we played them in Barbados, though they did not put up a good fight, they must have improved by now," he said.

With this expectation, Cole said the Jamaica team is also more experienced.

"Now that our team is super fit and more experienced, we expect to have a good match against Guyana. I know that they are not going to give in easy, though they are less experienced," he said.

JAMAICA SQUAD - Jem Edwards, Annakay Morrison, Terry-Ann Graham, Mitsy Stewart, Kaydian Gayle, Nichole Crossman, Sherine Johnson, Carole Kelly, Sandy Thompson, Dawn Reece, Tashana Robinson, Christene Smith, Liza Frazer, Denise Gayle, Krystal Groves, Kameca Rowe, Stacy-Ann Bowland, Catherine Harris, Daine-Ann Fearon, Tamillin Graham, Christene Robinson, Siddena Stephens, Stasha-Kaye Simpson, Patrice Senior, Vanessa Coley.
