Juantorena, Coe, Bubka, Crawford for McKenley farewell

DOUBLE Olympic gold medallist and London 2012 Olympics Organising Committee Chairman, Lord Sebastian Coe, pole vault world record-holder Sergey Bubka, double Olympic gold medallist Alberto Juantorena of Cuba and 1976 Olympic 100m champion, Hasely Crawford of Trinidad & Tobago are among 20 notable names from the international sporting fraternity who will attend tomorrow's funeral service for Herb McKenley.

Lord Coe, the Brit who won gold medals in the 1500m at the 1980 Moscow and 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games; Ukrainian Bubka, who set the 6.14 pole vault world record in 1994 and won gold in the event at the 1988 Seoul Olympics; Juantorena, who won gold in the 400m and 800m in Montreal in 1976, and Crawford are expected in the island by today.

Bahamas Athletics Association president Mike Sands, former president Bernard Nottage, and former council member Alpheus Findlayson are also expected for tomorrow's service.

Reports that American comedian and track & field enthusiast Bill Cosby will be in attendance could not be confirmed by the Ministry of Information and Culture, which yesterday released details of the official funeral for Jamaica's most celebrated athlete at a press briefing at Jamaica House.
The 1952 Helsinki Olympics 4x400m gold medallist, McKenley, who died on November 26, will be interred at National Heroes Park tomorrow following the funeral service at the National Arena, beginning at 2:00 pm.

Rome Olympics bronze medallist George Kerr will be one of the pall bearers, while another 40 of Jamaica's former Olympic representatives are expected as well as over 100 representatives from local sporting organisations, including the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association, Jamaica Football Federation, Jamaica Amateur Basketball Association, Jamaica Cricket Association, Jamaica Rugby Union, Jamaica Boxing Board, Special Olympics Jamaica, Jamaica Table Tennis Association, Amateur Swimming Association of Jamaica, Jamaica Olympic Association, Jamaica Hockey Federation and the Jamaica Sports Medicine Association.

Meanwhile, several condolence books will be available for signing today at the JAAA and Insports offices, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Office of the Prime Minister in Montego Bay, Jamaica Labour Party Headquarters on Belmont Road and Calabar High School.

Another 18 such books have been opened at Jamaica's overseas missions. The books will be sent to the Institute of Jamaica upon completion.

McKenley's body will also be available for viewing today at Calabar between 8 and 9 am, and at the National Arena between 10 am and 3 pm.

Meanwhile, the ISSA/Digicel Dacosta Cup final between Glenmuir and Garvey Maceo, which was scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed until next Saturday at a venue to be decided.
