JFF reduces ticket prices for Boyz-SVG friendly
Sean Williams
Thursday, May 22, 2008

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) said yesterday there will be a significant reduction in the cost of tickets for the Reggae Boyz' June 3 friendly international against St Vincent & the Grenadines (SVG) at the National Stadium, starting at 7:00 pm.

The new prices - for this game only - will see spectators to the Grandstand paying $1,000 and $1,2000 - a reduction of over 100 per cent from what was charged in the last game against Trinidad & Tobago in late March.

Patrons in the Bleachers will pay $500 - down from $1,000.
In a press release yesterday, the JFF said "The reduction of prices is to send a clear signal to patrons that every single match in the campaign needs their full support."

In other words, a game against St Vincent - ranked 145 by FIFA - would not appear an attractive prospect for the "educated" Jamaican football fan, so a reduction in the cost is to serve as an encouragement in the harsh economic times.
JFF president, Captain Horace Burrell, earlier this year begged football-loving fans to dig deeper into their pockets to attend matches, as he outlined the costs involved in hosting high-quality games, and local fans responded to the call.
In games against Costa Rica and T&T, the Boyz performed to near capacity crowds at 'The Office'.

After the SVG encounter, Jamaica's next home assignment will be the Bahamas in a CONCACAF World Cup qualifying two-match play-off at the National Stadium on June 15, with the second leg set for the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium three days later. Admission for the Bahamas matches will revert to their previous costs.

Meanwhile, technical director Rene Simoes has summoned 21 overseas-based players for a training camp to begin preparation firstly for the SVG game. That will be followed by two friendlies against Caribbean opponents T&T on June 7 and Grenada three days later.

All the foreign-based players invited are expected in the island by Sunday to start camp the following day. Eight local-based players, according to a JFF release, have been invited to the squad.

The bulging contingent of overseas-based players represents the broadest and strongest to be assembled by Simoes since he returned to Jamaica.

Some of those players were chosen following recent scouting missions by the Brazilian in the UK and USA.
The full squad of invitees will be announced today at the COK Champions Cup awards presentation to be held at the JFF secretariat in New Kingston.
