FRISCO, Texas (CMC) - Caribbean players Scott Sealy and Omar Cummings hit US Major League Soccer (MLS) goals this past weekend, but their teams had different results.
Jamaican Cummings struck the last of the Colorado Rapids goals at home as they flattened the New York Red Bulls 4-0, while Sealy, of Trinidad and Tobago, netted a first-half goal that helped Kansas City Wizards draw 1-1 on the road with FC Dallas.
Sealy, currently out of favour with Trinidad and Tobago's national bosses, struck a superb goal - his second of the season - that gave the Wizards a 39th minute lead at Pizza Hut Park.
Davy Arnaud sent a testing cross inside to Claudio Lopez, who flicked a quick pass on to Sealy, who had his back to goal.
The 27-year-old former T&T junior swimming champion turned cleverly and quickly and hit a perfectly placed left-footed shot just inside the left post, beating a diving Dario Sala in the FC Dallas goal.
The Wizards, currently in last place in the Eastern Conference, were on the verge of a vital victory when Abe Thompson headed in a last-minute goal to give FC Dallas a share of the points.
At Dick's Sporting Goods Park, Colorado dominated the Red Bulls to improve their position in the very tight mid-season Western Conference race.
Tom McManus and Mehdi Ballouchy struck first-half goals and Colorado made it 3-0 in the 49th minute through Colin Clark.
Cummings had gone close to scoring several times and finally hit the target in the 68th minute.
McManus collected the ball on the right and placed an accurate pass inside to Cummings, who evaded a challenge from a defender and slipped a neat shot past the onrushing goalkeeper Jon Conway.
Cummings is the joint team-leader - with McManus and Christian Gomez - in scoring for Colorado with three goals. With 19 points, the Rapids are currently fifth in the Western Conference standings, but only two points off the lead.
They trail leaders Los Angeles Galaxy (21), Chivas USA (21), Real Salt Lake (20) and Houston Dynamo (20).
The New England Revolution, with Grenada's Shalrie Joseph and Bermuda international Khano Smith, are clear leaders in the east with 33 points, five ahead of Columbus Crew (27).
