11 athletes leave for Spitfire Wheelchair basketball competition

Members of the Spitfire Wheelchair basketball delegation at the airport prior to their departure earlier this week.

An 11-member team of wheelchair-bound athletes left the island on Tuesday for the Spitfire Wheelchair Basketball Competition in Ontario, Canada.

The tournament, which takes place from yesterday through Monday, is to provide paralympic teams from across the provinces in Canada and around the world an opportunity to warm up for the Paralympic Games in Beijing, China.

The Jamaican delegation to the Spitfire Wheelchair Basketball Competition includes Tanto Campbell, Kevon Reid, Steve O'Connor, Kirt Walcott, Joel Brown, Bryan Ingram and Dennis Cunningham.

They are accompanied by four officials: Keith Henry, equipment manager; Ajay Cowdary Kapu, physiotherapist; Errol Williams, coach and Pamela Chin, manager.
