DAMBULLA, Sri Lanka (CMC) - West Indies all-rounder Stacey-Ann King says the regional side is full of confidence as they head into today's second One-Day International against Sri Lanka.
The 25-year-old, who stroked an attractive half-century in a 40-run win over Sri Lanka at the Dambulla Stadium on Tuesday, said the women's team needed to built on the momentum gained from that victory.
"We are in good spirits and looking to win the series 5-0. We started well in the first match, and even though we did not get the kind of score we were looking for, we managed to stick to the game plan," King said.
"We were good in the field and we bowled very well to restrict the Sri Lankans. Obviously, they have home advantage and they are used to the pitches and the outfields, but we are confident of getting the better of them.
"They (Sri Lankans) know their stuff and they are a good team, so we have to ensure we stay focused and aware of the game situations, as the coach keeps telling us."
King was at the centre of the West Indies' win in their tour opener, scoring 70 from 100 balls with eight fours and two sixes, as the regional side reached 167 all out off 49.5 overs. The hosts then slipped to 127 all out off 42.4 overs.
"It was challenging when I first went to the crease. We lost a few wickets and it was quite difficult to score," King said, reflecting on her match-winning innings.
"Sri Lanka's captain had her thinking cap on and she was using the best bowlers. I had to reverse the script on her. I waited for my opportunity to score. I bat at number five for Trinidad and Tobago so going in at number four for West Indies was not unusual for me. I was up for the fight.
"I was able to see off the best bowlers, and then when the weaker bowlers came on I made the most of it. It was good to get my career-best score, but I felt I could have made even more. I'm not done. I will be looking for other good scores in the remaining four matches."
