Four on course for D'Cup quarter-finals
PAUL A REID, Observer writer reidp@jamaicaobserver.com

FROME, Westmoreland - Four schools - led by former champions Frome Technical and Dinthill Technical - maintained their perfect records in the Inter-Zone round of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboys' football competition after scoring wins in yesterday's rescheduled matches.

Frome edged Cedric Titus 1-0 at Drax Hall to lead Group One on six points; Lennon took over the lead in Group Four after edging Manchester high 1-0; St Thomas technical beat Bog walk by the same margin to lead Group Five while Dinthill's 2-0 win over Paul Bogle High was enough to see them lead Group Six.

All four teams need only a point from tomorrow's final set of matches in the Inter-Zone round to secure their places in the quarter-finals that will kick off on Saturday.

Ricardo Monroe came off the bench to score for Frome after missing the last three games due to an injured hamstring.
The consistent Tevin Skyers and Carlos Smith scored for Dinthill Technical who have scored six times in the Inter-zone round without conceding a goal.

Meanwhile Cornwall College, Glenmuir High and Old Harbour High all won for the first time in the Inter-Zone round.
Cornwall College survived a missed penalty kick in the first half to outlast Grange Hill 2-1 on an atrocious field at the Frome Sports Club in Westmoreland.

Playing without captain Mikhail Weatherly who was sent off in their 0-0 draw against Rusea's last Wednesday, Cornwall survived a furious last 20 minutes by Grange Hill to join Rusea's on four points at the top of Group Two.

Ramon Foster pushed a 15th-minute penalty wide to the right of goalkeeper Chad Blair, but Jahmal Whittaker put the Montego Bay-based school in the lead after 44 minutes.

The lanky striker controlled a high cross, then beat two defenders before calmly side-footing the ball to Blair's right.
Foster made up for his miss in the first half when he put Cornwall 2-0 up after 53 minutes with a sweetly-timed volley after Grange Hill failed to clear a corner.

Cornwall should have made it 3-0 a minute later when Whittaker and Michael Allen led a swift counter-attack, but Allen who had time and with Blair at his mercy, kicked wide past the far left post.

After watching Ashley Forrest miss an open goal in the 70th minute, Trevoy Powell pulled one back for Grange Hill when he powered home from close range.

Yesterday's results

Cedric Titus-0 Frome-1
Grange Hill-1 Cornwall-2
Bellefield-1 Clarendon-1
Manchester-0 Lennon-1
Bog Walk-0 St Thomas-1
Dinthill-2 Paul Bogle-0
Glenmuir-3 Annotto Bay-2
Old Harbour-4 St Mary Tech-0
