Harbour View keep faint hope alive with victory

Harbour View snapped Arnett Gardens' 11-game unbeaten streak when they downed the 'Junglists' 2-1 in their DPL game at the Tony Spaulding Complex, keeping the east Kingston team in with a mathematical chance of winning the league.

Kevin King gave the host a sixth-minute lead, but goals from Marcelino Blackburn (24th), and Andre Fagan (39th) saw Harbour View leaving the Complex with all three points.

Harbour View are now on 65 points, five behind leaders Portmore.

In an entertaining first-half, the home team jumped into an early lead when King volleyed home from inside of the area for his second goal in as many games.

However, former Arnett Gardens striker, Blackburn, levelled when he beat goalkeeper Julian McLeish with a looping header.

Fagan then put the visitors in front seven minutes before the break, beating McLeish with a clinical header from the edge of the box.

Harbour View played a more conservative game in the second period, but Arnett failed to make use of a number of chances that fell their way.

King was the first to test goalkeeper Dwayne Miller early in the half with a rasping shot from just outside the box.

Harbour View coach, Donovan Hayles, said as long as his team is in with a chance they will fight to the end.

"Even if we do not win this competition, we will fight to the very end, and we are looking to win the last three games so we can keep ourselves in contention," he commented.

Arnett's Fabian Davis said his team got complacent after taking the lead. "We started pretty well, but I think we got complacent and the concentration level dropped," he said.
