Sinclair wins at Adidas Track Classic

Kenia Sinclair imposed her will to become the only Jamaican winner at the Adidas Track Classic in Carson, California Saturday night while Novlene Williams-Mills, Shereefa Lloyd, and Steve Mullings finished in the top three.

Sinclair, a Commonwealth Games and World Indoor 800m silver medallist, won the 1,500m in a time not near her personal best. She clocked four minutes 13.16 seconds, beating Serbian Marina Muncan, 4:13.43, and Ethiopia's Mestawot Tadesse, 4:13.69.

It was the 28-year-old Jamaican's first 1,500m since 2007 when she ran a personal best 4:05.56 also here at the Adidas Classic on May 20.

Williams-Mills, 27, ran 51.83 seconds to place second in the 400m won by 22-year-old American Natasha Hastings, both a World Youth and World Junior champion, who timed a season-best 51.46 seconds.

Lloyd was third in 52.03 seconds.

Three other Jamaicans in the race, Rosemarie Whyte (52.14sec), Sonita Sutherland (52.93sec) and Patricia Hall (53.07sec) was fifth, seventh and eighth respectively.

In the men's 100m, with the fastest Jamaican this year Yohan Blake failing to finish, Steve Mullings clocked 10.19 seconds for third place after USA's Darvis Patton, winner in 10.12 seconds, and Antiguan Daniel Bailey, 10.14 seconds.

In the women's equivalent, former Jamaican champion Aleen Bailey, hard on herself this season, sputtered behind the field for eighth place in 11.45 seconds after American Bianca Knight was disqualified.

USA took the top three spots, Carmelita Jeter winning in 11.09 seconds, Muna Lee second (11.22sec), and Stephanie Durst third (11.22sec).

Schillonie Calvert ran 11.68 seconds for fifth in the 100m B race, won by USA's Gloria Asumnu, 11.40 seconds.

Ricardo Chambers' struggles with confidence is prolonged with an eighth-place finish in the 400 metres won by Olympic silver medallist American Jeremy Wariner, who has rejoined his long-time coach Clyde Hart after their split in January 2008.

Wariner won in a season-best 44.66 seconds, Bahamian Chris Brown was second in 45.03, and Trinidadian Rennie Quow third in 45.05. Chambers ran 46.72 seconds.

Maurice Wignall ended fifth in the 110m hurdles won by American Terrence Trammell, 13.39sec, who beat fellow American Antwon Hicks, 13.45sec, with Bahamian Shamar Sands, 13.58, third.

In the discus, Jason Morgan was sixth with 56.07m, as USA's Ian Waltz won in a throw of 61.70m.

Mardrea Hyman failed to finish the women's 3,000m steeplechase won USA's Anna Willard, 9:26.85.
