FRISCO, Texas (CMC) - Jamaica-born forward Jeff Cunningham sensationally thumped Kansas City Wizards with a career-best four goals and propelled FC Dallas to a 6-0 victory in US Major League Soccer (MLS) on Saturday night.
The 32-year-old veteran hit three second-half strikes to sink the visiting Wizards who were down 0-2 at the half and were heavily beaten at Pizza Hut Park.
Originally from Montego Bay, on Jamaica's north coast, Cunningham became the ninth player to score four goals in a league game, one short of the MLS record.
"It was one of those games that every striker dreams of," Cunningham said.
"It seemed as if everything I did went well," added Cunningham, who became a US citizen in 2001 and had 10 international appearances for the Americans.
His four-goal effort also vaulted him to 112 career MLS goals, surpassing former Dallas Burn star Jason Kreis for third on the league's career list.
Only Jaime Moreno (128) and Ante Razov (114) have scored more.
Cunningham opened the scoring after 39 minutes on an assist from Atiba Harris, the St Kitts and Nevis international.
Harris, recently traded from Chivas USA, made a smart run down the right flank and crossed inside for Cunningham to smash home.
David Ferreira made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute and after the break, Cunningham added strikes in the 66th and 75th to make it 4-0.
His goal in the 66th came from the penalty spot. He was fouled in the box by Kansas City's Raushawn McKenzie and hit the spot-kick himself.
Ferreira scored again in the 78th and Cunningham wrapped up the lopsided win with a goal in the 89th minute.
