Beach volleyballers earn points for 2012 Games
Wednesday, November 04, 2009
The Caribbean's No 1 beach volleyball team - the Jamaican pair of Mark Lewis and Dany Wilson - was narrowly defeated by Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen of Mexico in a thrilling encounter, as the curtains came down on the North, Central America and the Caribbean (NORCECA) Beach Volleyball Tournament in Nicaragua.
The Jamaicans were facing the Mexicans for the second time in the finals of the tournament, after Jamaica hosted one leg of the tournament in June (2009).
Their success in this tournament is remarkable as they faced giants such as the USA, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and Guatemala.
The Jamaicans are ranked No 1 in the Caribbean and earned valuable points for qualification to the 2012 Olympics in London.
Lewis and Wilson are determined to create history, as Jamaica has never qualified for the Olympics - either indoor or beach volleyball.
Their next stop is the Sizzlin Sands Beach Volleyball competition in Barbados during the period November 6-9, 2009.
