Scotiabank chalk up 12th Inter-Bank title

Wednesday, November 04, 2009

A hat-trick from former Tivoli Premier League player Richard West and a lone strike from Nicholas McCreath carried defending champions Scotiabank Group to an emphatic 4-0 victory over Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) in the final of the Norman Goodison Inter Bank football competition Monday at the NWC field in Mona.

Scotiabank were winning their 12th title. JNBS should have taken the lead in the first five minutes as they had two excellent chances to score. First, Jair Minott got away from defenders Ajuran Brown and Elgin Mitchell and with only goalkeeper Tavar Mcqueen to beat, shot straight to the latter.

Two minutes later, Ricardo Atkinson received a defence-splitting pass from Minott and after beating an advancing Mcqueen, shot past the upright.

Scotiabank made JNBS pay for those missed chances as West received a cross from Donovan Hibbert in the 13th minute which he tapped past a hapless Javen Spence in goal.

West was at it again in the 25th as after receiving a cross from Adrian Slucher, his powerful shot from the top of the area was partially saved by Javen Spence, but McCreath kicked the rebound into the goal as the half ended 2-0.

On the resumption, West scored his second when McCreath beat two defenders before passing to West, who slotted home. He scored his third in the 89th when he finished a nice build-up between Troy July, Shem Lord and himself.

The third-place play-off was won by RBTT 3-1 over Pan Caribbean Financial Services. Pan Caribbean took the lead in the 5th though an own goal, but goals from Kelvin Lawrence (40th), Rohan Findlay (50th) and Micheal Clarke (81st) gave them victory.
