LYNCH PARK, Portland - St George's Sports Club advanced to the Digicel Premier League's first end-of-round final after edging village United 1-0 courtesy of Ushane Dobson's 33rd-minute strike at Lynch Park yesterday.

In a game of numerous missed opportunities, St George's secured their historic appearance in Sunday's round finale against defending champions Tivoli Gardens, who had earlier qualified.

Dobson got by goalkeeper Elvis Hart from a Damion Harwood pass and slotted home midway the first period after Harwood had missed golden chances on at least three occasions, with the open goal beckoning.

The normally prolific striker missed a back-header from Omar Davis and a good pass from Danian Reid - who was returning from injury - and also failed to capitalise on a Nigel Reid pass.

Leon Irving then got by two opponents before passing to Dobson, but his long-range shot only saw goalkeeper Hart injuring himself after scrambling to effect the save after three attempts.

Harwood was instrumental in setting up the decisive goal when he passed to Dobson, who went by a defender and slotted home in the 33rd to the delight of the home supporters, even as the rainbow symbolically hovered above the venue.

Harwood should have sent the Portlanders into the break further ahead, but defender Andre More twice denied him by blocking his shot as the half ended with the Georgians on a high.

The second half saw both teams instigating a few attacks, but St George's defender and captain Germaine Taylor and Village's More ensured that no more goals were scored.

According to Village's coach, Casman Williams, "It was a good game for St Georges. We were not at our best and it didn't work out for us today, but we look forward to the next round."

Winning coach Braxton Hyre said: "It was not an easy game for us and we were fortunate to score one. After getting so much opportunity we're happy for the win. We're looking forward to Sunday's game as we just had a bad game here today, despite the expectations."
