CC sizzle in ISSA Basketball League

MONTEGO BAY, St James - Defending champions Cornwall College started the defence of their ISSA/Western Conference basketball titles with resounding wins over Muschett High at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on Wednesday.

Cornwall won 62-18 in the Under-16 section then beat the Trelawny school 61-50 in the Under-19s.

A day earlier, Herbert Morrison scored double wins over William Knibb - 32-24 in the Under-16 and 91-48 in the Under-19.

Six schools are talking part in the Under-19 section - Cornwall, Mannings, Herbert Morrison, William Knibb, Muschett and Spot Valley - while five schools will take part in the Under 16 - Cornwall, Mannings, Herbert Morrison, William Knibb and Muschett.

Herbert Morrison will seek win number two in either section this afternoon when they take on Mannings in Montego Bay.

On Wednesday in the Under-19 game, Cornwall opened a big first-half gap over Muschett, leading 21-11 after the first quarter and 40-19 at half-time before easing the throttle in the second half.

Christopher Smith and Gavin Brown scored 20 points each for Cornwall, as Jason Billings led Muschett with 16 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots and Rajive Hall scored 12 points.

In the Juniors match, Romaine Hines, Junior Chinnock and Shane Graham scored 10 points each for Cornwall, who led 20-4 after the first quarter, 31-4 at half-time and 40-12 after the third quarter.

On Tuesday, Herbert Morrison's Under-19 team dominated William Knibb, with four players scoring in double figures.

Jervis Hamilton led the way with 32 points, 28 rebounds, five blocked shots and seven steals; Jamoi Richards scored 30 points, had six rebounds, 120 steals and 11 assists; Nicko Campbell scored 16 points, while Rodein Reid had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Herbert Morrison were up 16-8 after the first quarter and led by 19 points at half-time, 35-16. They increased their lead to 36 at the end of the third quarte, 64-28.
