Trainer Bruce shot at Caymanas Park

Saturday, November 07, 2009

Racehorse trainer Donovan Bruce, popularly called "Issues", was shot and injured at his stable on the Caymanas Park racing complex yesterday.

Police report that Bruce, 51, was inside the stable with other men, when a gunman approached and shot him with a handgun.

The incident happened about 5:30 pm. None of the other men was injured.

Details about Bruce's condition were not available up to press time last night, but the police said he was in hospital being prepared for surgery.

Bruce became the second trainer in recent times to have been shot on the racing compound. Veteran trainer Howard Phillips was gunned down in a similar manner prior to the running of the first race on Saturday, February 7, 2004.
