ISSA Urban Schools netball continues today

Excelsior High, Gaynstead High and Norman Manley High maintained their unbeaten streak by scoring their fourth-straight wins in the 2018 Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Urban High Schools netball leagues as the second round continued at the Leila Robinson Courts recently.

Excelsior High, who are also the defending All-Island champions of champions, are sole leaders in Group Two with 12 points from four matches. The Mountain View Avenue-based team, coached by Christopher Smart, has also qualified for the semi-finals.

Excelsior have won all their second-round matches convincingly in the Seniors, beating Merl Grove High 48-14; Camperdown High 37-22; The Queen's School 40-28; and St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) 47-19. Their final game will be against Ardenne High today.

Gaynstead High are the sole leaders in Group One of the Seniors with 12 points from four wins. The Swallowfield-based girls coached by Dalton Hinds have qualified for the semi-finals by winning their matches convincingly.

Gaynstead have so far defeated José Martí Technical 54-3; Meadowbrook High 42-12; St Catherine High 33-28; and Holy Childhood High 42-17. Their last match in this round will be against STATHS today.

Norman Manley High, coached by Wayne Wallace, are the surprise team in the Juniors as they are yet to lose a game. They had sent a warning when they captured the Juniors Open Rally title prior to the start of the competition.

So far they have beaten in the second round of the Juniors Group Two, Merl Grove 29-13; Camperdown 40-17; The Queen's School 30-17; and St Hugh's High 35-22. They will next play Ardenne in their last game of the round today.

Former Junior League champions Gaynstead are the only unbeaten team in Group One as they lead with 12 points from four outings. They have defeated José Martí 39-14; Bridgeport High 38-16; defending champions St Catherine High 41-28; and Wolmer's 33-17. Gaynstead have qualified for the semi-finals and will next play St Jago High today to complete their second-round fixtures.

Juniors — 1:30 pm — Gaynstead vs St Jago; St Hugh's vs Merl Grove; Wolmer's vs José Martí; St Catherine vs Bridgeport.

2:15 pm — The Queen's School vs Camperdown; Norman Manley vs Ardenne

Seniors — 2:15 — Holy Childhood vs José Martí; St Catherine vs Meadowbrook

3:00 pm — Gaynstead vs St Andrew Technical; St Andrew High vs Merl Grove

3:15 pm — The Queen's School vs Camperdown; Excelsior vs Ardenne
