Saints, Lions lead in U-18 Elite League

ST CATHERINE Saints and Manchester Lions are the two leaders in the 2018 Jamaica Football Federation (JFF)/ Sportsmax Under-18 Elite League as the preliminary round drew to a close.

The Saints are on top of East Zone with 11 points, followed by defending champions KSAFA All-Stars (10 points), St Ann Giants (nine), St Thomas Cobras (eight), and Portland Blazers and St Mary Raiders with one point each. All the teams have played five matches each.

Meanwhile, The Lions lead with 10 points in the West Zone, followed by Clarendon Galaxy (nine), Hanover Patriots (nine), St James United (six), St Elizabeth Tigers (five), Westmoreland Warriors (two), and Trelawny Barons at the bottom of the table with one point.

Interestingly, the Saints and the Lions are the only two unbeaten teams.

Results of matches played in the East Zone last Saturday: St Ann and champions KSAFA All-Stars played to a goalless draw at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.

At the same venue, the Saints and the Cobras played to a 1-1 draw. Ryan Brown scored for the Saints in the first minute, while Garth Stewart got the equaliser in the 75th .

The Raiders and the Blazers played to a 2-2 draw at the St Mary Sports Complex. Raiders got going with an own goal in the seventh minute followed by a 30th-minute strike from Tyreek Brown. Rajae Lawrence and Shadane Lopez replied for the Blazers in the 42nd and 52nd minutes, respectively.

Over in the West Zone, an own goal in the 48th minute and a Tahja Reynolds' effort in the 50th gave Lions a 2-0 win over the Patriots at Brooks Park in Manchester.

St James United tagged the Tigers 2-0 through goals from Richard Thompson and Calwayne Allen in the 26th and 54th minutes, respectively, at St Elizabeth Technical High School playing field in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth.

The Barons and the Warriors played to a 1-1 draw at STETHS with Nazime Matalic netting for the Warriors. Ackeem Hastings got the equaliser in the 54th minute.

In the West Zone, action continues on Saturday with Clarendon Galaxy vs St Elizabeth Tigers at 3:35 pm at Juici Park in Clarendon, Westmoreland Warriors vs Manchester Lions at 1:45 pm, St James United vs Trelawny Barons at 3:45 pm at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay.

No games are scheduled for teams in the East Zone as they have already completed their preliminary round of matches.
