LUCEA, Hanover — The 2018-19 western Jamaica track and field season will get under way today with the staging of the third Seymour Panton Track and Field Classic at the Colin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea set to start at 8:30 am.

The event that is expected to attract over 25 schools from the county of Cornwall, including hosts Rusea's High, St Elizabeth Technical, Munro College, Cornwall College, Spot Valley High, Petersfield High and Manning's, will see the athletes competing in 'over-distance' events.

Instead of running the standard events, athletes will run 150m, 300m and 600m, for example, as well as the standard field events.

The 150m, 300m and long jump events will be open for all classes for boys and girls, while only classes one, two and three will run the 600m and the 1000m races.

There will be a 1600m open in addition to a 4x400m relay and javelin open events.

The discus throw will be for classes one, two and three, while only classes one and two will contest the shot put events.
