The expected blockbuster between the pair of many-time champions St Catherine CC and Melbourne CC at Chedwin Park will take much of the spotlight in today's start of the semi-finals of the Jamaica Cricket Association's two-day Senior Cup competition.

The other semi-final clash pits Manchester CA against University of the West Indies (UWI) at Manchester High School.

Play in the two matches is set to begin 10:00 am both days.

St Catherine CC, the one-day cricket champions, advanced to the two-day semis after gaining first-innings honours versus visitors Kensington CC in a drawn quarter-final encounter at Chedwin Park last weekend.

Melbourne, the 2016 champions and last year's losing finalists, emphatically booked their 2018 semi-final spot with an eight-wicket win over Westmoreland CA at Melbourne Oval.

Hosts UWI got the better of St Catherine CA on first innings in the drawn match at the Mona Bowl, while in the other quarter-final game, Manchester CA also secured first-innings advantage against St Ann CA at Manchester High.

Title-holders Jamaica Defence Force have not participated in this season's competition due to their role in the ongoing state of emergency in sections of St James ad St Catherine.
