Tamara Thompson is the general manager of World Brand Services and Consumer Brands Ltd at GraceKennedy. She easily endears with her charm, work ethic and strong business acumen. We catch up with her at the end of a very long and busy day where, in between sips of Ménage à Trois Silk, we exchange travel notes and more.

You recently travelled to Russia for the World Cup. How did this come about and how was the experience?

This was an incentive-based award given by a principal/supplier. It was very rewarding and enlightening. I was able to experience the unique culture of Eastern Europe. The ultimate encounter was that of attending two world cup matches in Moscow.

What interesting projects are you currently working on?

One of the projects I am working on forms part of a strategic initiative to deliver long-term growth for World Brands Services, a division of GK Foods & Services Ltd.

How do you stay motivated?

Discerning God's will for my life and walking in obedience to it. Sharing and celebrating the wins with my team. Setting personal goals that I hold myself accountable for. Surpassing the company's objectives. Leading from the heart with God at the centre to unlock the purpose of my team members. And the love and support from my family. My personal mantra is “Passion for the job, will to win, love for the team.”

Most of your siblings reside overseas. Why was it important for you to make The Rock home?

I have a deep love for my country and I am grateful for the career journey that I have enjoyed in Jamaica and I value the quality of life I have. The natural flora and ecosystem in Jamaica are unique and comparable to none. We are still a people who pride ourselves on being our brother's keeper.

What's the last book that you read?

Baptism in the Holy Spirit by Guillermo Maldonado.

What are five things about you that many would find hard to believe?

I am a Christian; passionate about God. I love to cook all types of cuisine — received certification from Le Cordon Bleu and did short courses with the late culinary doyennne Norma Shirley. Was part-owner in a restaurant. Love sports — played netball for many years, including Business House. I consider myself to be reserved.

What has been your favourite city to visit so far?

Cancún.

Who would you be calling at 2:00 am for advice and vice versa?

My husband; he is my confidant, friend and support.

What has motherhood taught you?

Resilience, patience, unconditional love, the importance of prayer, how to laugh and not to sweat the small stuff.

Heels or flats?

Heels.

Jeans or LBD?

Jeans.
