Whatta Ting at AFROPUNK Brooklyn!

Sunday, September 03, 2017

“No Sexism, No Racism, No Ableism, No Ageism, No Homophobia, No Fatphobia, No Transphobia, and No Hatefulness.” The Brooklyn edition of the Afropunk Festival which celebrates black heritage and music and of which Rock son Matthew Morgan is a co-organiser — was back for a 12th staging of soul, power and black-inclusive politics. But, at its centre remained its initial premise of billed live performances from a potpourri of genre acts. R&B crooner Raphael Saadiq, Hollywood royalty Willow Smith, Jamaica's own reggae star Protoje and jazz man Gary Clark complemented Afropunk's expected spades of patrons marching to their own gender-neutral fashion beats.

SO photog Kenyon Hemans, refreshed with sips of grapefruit fizzy pop Ting and guided by the brand's ever-so-fab export marketing manager Carla Hollingsworth, was there for it all at Commodore Barry Park last weekend.
