I am writing to you. I am 65 years old and I did a blood test at the Spanish Town hospital on the 20th of July 2018. Until now I have not got the result o f the test.

I went to The Waterford Clinic in Portmore because of a severe pain I was feeling in one of my knees. On the first occasion the clinic sent me to the hospital for my knee to be x-rayed However, when I went I was told that for over one year the x-ray machine had been out of service.

I then went to a private medical facility to do the x-ray. On seeing nothing on the x-ray that could be causing the pain in my knee, the clinic sent me to the hospital to do the blood tests.

When I went to pick up the result of the blood test for my knee, they told me that it would take about a month for me to get the result because the laboratory was not at that hospital but would have to be sent to Kingston.

Since then I have been calling the Spanish Town hospital every week and each time they tell me that the result has not come back as yet. One of the times that I phoned I was told that although there were five different parts to the blood works tests I had done, they had only received the results for one of the five parts.

On receiving your letter dated December 17, 2018, Tell Claudienne contacted the office of the CEO of the Spanish Town Hospital on February 13.2019. The Patient Affairs Manager ( PAM) at the Spanish Town Hospital was asked to investigate your matter and the column notes that he phoned you on Friday, February 15, 2019 and tendered an apology.

You said that the PAM told you that the laboratory that should have tested your blood samples had closed. The PAM asked you to come to the hospital and collect a paper to take to the doctor at the clinic. He said that you might have to do the blood tests at a private lab.

When you went to the laboratory on the grounds of the Spanish Town hospital on the PAM's instructions you got the runaround. Tell Claudienne spoke to the CEO and he phoned and invited you to a meeting. When you met with the CEO you were given a form to fill out. You were also told when to return to get the result of the tests. However, after making two or three more visits to the hospital the matter was still not resolved.

In the meantime the CEO's office has explained that after a patient makes a complaint the CEO meets with the complainant. The Parish St Catherine Health Department is brought into the picture before the intervention of the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) is sought to resolve the matter.

Tell Claudienne has been in communication with the Director of SERHA about your problem and we note that she contacted you immediately. On the instruction of the SERHA Director the results of your blood tests were sent by the care operations manager to the Waterford Clinic. We also see that the April date you were given for your next visit to the clinic was fast forwarded to Thursday March 7, 2019.

The SERHA Director said that she will do an investigation to find out if there are other patients in a similar plight to yours.
