1 Several artistes from the Caribbean have released music videos for their respective new singles. American Electronica music producer and disc jockey Skrillex has released the video for his collaboration with Damian Marley entitled Make It Bun Dem. Trinidadian soca artiste Machel Montano dropped Make It Shake, that features Busta Rhymes, Olivia, and Fatman Scoop. Jamaican songstress Denyque released the RD Studios-directed Supergirl. The song is from her debut mixtape I.Am.Supergirl.
2 British power-pop boy band One Direction were the big winners of the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. The group went home with the awards for the Most Share-Worthy Video, Best Pop Video, and Best New Video. Other winners of the night included Rihanna, Drake, and Chris Brown.
3 For the second year in a row Canadian Actor-Rapper-Singer Drake has won the Songwriter of the Year Award at the prestigious Broadcast Music, Inc (BMI) Awards. This year Drake shared the Songwriter of the Year award with his Young Money Entertainment record label head Lil'Wayne. Other winners of the night included Mac Miller, and Mariah Carey, who was honoured as a BMI Icon.
4 Kanye West has released the latest single entitled The Clique from his record label G.O.O.D Music's first compilation album Cruel Summer. The Clique features raps from Kanye West, Big Sean, and Jay-Z, with background vocals from James Fauntleroy.
5 Actor-Singer-Songwriter Justin Timberlake has made another addition to his already lengthy resume, with his planned acquisition of the NBA franchise, the Memphis Grizzlies, through the investment group Ubiquiti Networks he has recently joined. Currently the Memphis Grizzlies is the only basketball franchise operating in Justin Timberlake's home state Tennessee, in the USA.
