DEEJAY Darrio Johnson is part of one of the most prolific and successful dancehall outfits in Jamaica — Subkonshus Musik.
Going by the stage name Darrio, the 26-year-old from Deeside Trelawny, this summer gained some traction in the industry with his collaboration with labelmate Konshens on Gyal Siddung.
But how much do you know about Darrio?
"I started taking the music seriously about 2005, I debuted at sting in 2005 and that was a big thing to me an all of my fren them," he told the Press Record.
It was shortly after that that the father to one child, linked up with Konshens — another newcomer in the business — who many people think is his cousin.
"For all of the curious minds, me and Konshens not related, we just bredrins, just musical like musical bredda," Darrio explained.
And definitely Darrio doesn't look like how he sounds.
"People definitely didn't know what I look like when I did the first collab with Konshens. The voices almost sound the same. But now, I try a whole different vibe... I approach the riddim different, maybe even change up my voice, have a like hoarse sound," he said.
Just coming off a tour in Uganda, Darrio says that he has always been lucky with his music internationally.
"I always have luck with the foreign links. I am always lucky for somebody to hear my music and want to work with me. So that's what happened with my first mixtape. It went straight abroad. But I'm definitely going to drop another one," said Darrio.
Now that his growing fanbase is seeing more of the artiste on TV and hearing him on the radio, he told Press Record that he had much more in store for them.
