1 Despite predictions from scholars, psychic mediums, scientists and religious leaders the world over, the world did not end. Jamaicans, who were mostly packed into religious sanctuaries island-wide at the time, rejoiced at seeing the New Year.

2 As a result of the Y2K bug, The Jamaica Association of General Insurance Companies made a claim that problems associated with the bug would not be covered by normal insurance policies.

3 A board of directors chaired by Dr David Panton integrated Generation 2000 (G2K) as a non-profitable organisation.

4 Jamaica experienced its first year of positive economic growth since 1995. Small economic growth persisted to the upside approximately in line with US growth since.

5 International recording artiste Beenie Man copped the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album titled Art & Life.

6 Shaggy released his fourth album titled Hotshot, which sold 8.8 million units, making it the best-selling Dancehall/Reggae studio album.

7 The Jamaica Bobsled team won the gold medal at the World Push Championships in Monaco.

8 Jamaica finished with a medal count of eight (five silver and three bronze) at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

9 Stanley Beckford's Fi Wi Island A Boom won the National Festival Song Competition.

10 Ayisha Richards was crowned Miss Jamaica World 2000 and went on to represent Jamaica at the 51st staging of the Miss World pageant.
