Red, Amber & Green makes its on-air debut

Young, local Jamaican film-maker picked-up by Flow

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

CHRISTOPHER Byfield Films' (CBF) recently launched production — Red, Amber & Green — has entered a distribution deal with Flow Jamaica to be carried throughout Jamaica for the month of January. While the terms of the Flow deal were not disclosed, this agreement marks a significant milestone for the young film-maker, Christopher Byfield.

The short film chronicles the lives of four Jamaican TEENage boys and how they find solace amidst their challenging lives in urban Kingston. Making a living primarily as window washers when cars stop at traffic lights, they hustle to take advantage of every opportunity, including entertainment.

These friends, by virtue of how they provide their 'bread and butter', have incorporated these colours into their lives as a quick reminder of how to deal with their daily struggles, including learning and growing from each other, and even finding a way to help those less fortunate.

Red is Proff played by Adrian Wright, amber is Chris played by Christopher Byfield, and green is Dan Dan played by Damarah Danni; all of whom show what it means to be a survivor in the streets as life pushes them around and test their friendship.

This marks Byfield's first solo production where he not only directs, writes and produces, but also performs a lead role in the film.

When asked about his inspiration, Byfield stated "I was inspired to produce this film in an attempt to highlight the reality of life for many Jamaicans. At the same time, I wanted to show people that even if they're struggling, there's always hope and blessings to count."

Since being aired on Flow the short film has been receiving great reviews from viewers and members of the entertainment industry. There has also been feedback from interested corporate entities to have it produced into a series, multiple short films or maybe even a full-length movie.

As it relates to CBF, the independent production and entertainment company creates, directs and produces a variety of features primarily for television and online viewing.

Byfield explains that they currently focus on the exposure and improvement of the reality of Caribbean people and their diaspora through powerful social messages. Creatively speaking, he believes that art should not only reflect reality, but should also serve as a beacon that enlightens the path toward improvement of the human condition.

Looking toward the future, CBF aims to become the region's first fully integrated entertainment company in creating, directing, producing, and marketing all forms of creative content across all electronic media and platforms. The company is positioning itself at the forefront of every aspect of the motion picture entertainment industry as it relates to Caribbean life and all of its touch points. It also aims to be an avenue into the entertainment industry for many of the island's underprivileged diamonds in the rough.

Be sure to check out Red, Amber, Green on Wednesdays at 9:00 pm on Flow TV, Channel 100, with repeats on Fridays at 9:30 pm and Sundays at 6:30 pm.
