Teenage

Shoppers guide for FNO

Tuesday, September 07, 2010

ALTHOUGH we're back in school and back in that boring uniform it doesn't mean we can't be fashion forward! This weekend's Jamaica Observer's celebration of Fashion's Night Out is here to help keep us trendy with great sales at the participating stores.

With locations in Kingston, Montego Bay, Portmore, Spanish Town and Ocho Rios on board, you can be sure to get amazing discounts on not just clothing, but also accessories, electronics and almost anything a TEEN (especially those off to college) could possibly need.

But, for the veterans and the uninitiated, there are some do's and don'ts for the night's shopping:

1 Avoid walking with too much cash on hand. Nobody wants to get mugged. In fact, if you have an NCB debit or credit card, word has it that you could get additional savings.

2 Map out your route before leaving home. It definitely saves on transportation costs and time. You know what you want and where to get it, right? Get the list of the participating stores in your area and do a little recon (scope out the stores before Friday night and have your route memorised).

3 Carpool and group up. Move with the family or a group of friends. It's never any fun to shop alone.

4 Stay hydrated and be sure to eat. Walk with a bottle of water and a few snacks or be sure to stop at a nearby food court. Hunger and dehydration will only put a damper on the experience.

5 Start early! If you can, do your best to beat the rush. Get out early and you'll have a better chance of catching all the bargains.

6 Wear comfortable shoes or sandals. Being a fashionista can be painful sometimes. However, for Friday night, wear that pair of hot, but comfortable sandals/shoes. Why? It makes running to the shops all the more enjoyable.

7 Rest. Stop with your friends for a cool drink and remember to keep an eye, or two, on your purchases.

8 Go green. We're sure you have some of those reusable shopping bags at home. Why not take them with you for FNO shopping and lessen your waste at home?

Don't get too caught up in the night's events and forget to be careful.
