Smirnoff Dream Weekend

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

July 30 to August 2 saw the annual staging of one of the most highly anticipated events of the year: Smirnoff Dream Weekend. With patron-favourites and two new events the weekend had all the promise of something spectacular. Staged at various locations along Negril's Hip Strip, this party weekend delivered everything that was expected and so much more leaving many patrons still dreaming and some not wanting to wake up.

Patrons were treated to Negril favourites: Twisted Spirits, Daydreams, Xtreme Wet n Wild, Beer Vibes and Smirnoff Xclusive; as well as to two new parties: Smirnoff Flavours and Yush.

As TEENs and young adults from around the island filtered into Negril, the high energy moved from party to party with good music, food, décor and the one in a million vibe that can only be made and achieved by the Dream promoters.

Taking the top three spots for the weekend were Yush, Smirnoff Xclusive and Beer Vibes. Maybe it was the set up of Margaritaville, the dj line-up or just the overall concept but new-comers to the weekend PP, Quizz and Scott definitely delivered with the only 90's party. The selectors entertained patrons of all ages with their battle of the decades and to top it off were the performance from Aidonia and Chi Ching Ching.

Taking it out with a bang, Smirnoff Xclusive pleased Dreamers with performances by Richie Loop, Chris Martin, D-Major and Liquid. Some partied their last night to selections from Richie-D, while others hung out by the food court and the white and red themed lounge.

At the number three spot, Beer vibes took patrons through all genres as Bambino and Fire Links pumped up the vibe. With a good layout and a full venue, patrons enjoyed all a party could offer without the food.

Hailed by many as the must go event of the weekend, Xtreme Wet and Wild, didn't quite live up to its reputation. As the afternoon rains came, so did the patrons come out in their numbers. And as patrons filtered in so did the high energy rise as Tony Matterhorn and Black Chiney took the wheels of steel and surely did not disappoint.

Although the vibe was great, the overcrowded venue and muddy surroundings made it difficult for some patrons to enjoy themselves without getting into someone else's space. From fights to fainting and the excessive pushing and shoving paired with a lack of food and supplies at drink stations, while some enjoyed their day others remained somewhat flustered.

A number of patrons stated that security was one of the best features. Hats were also tipped to the relatively quick service at food and drink stations as well as the layout of most events. The biggest blunder seen by most is that the venues were jam-packed, but who could tell just how many persons to expect at each event.

Of course, the weekend would not be complete without music, and Seanizzle's One Day Riddim was the one thing you were guaranteed to hear. On the international side, songs like All I do is win, Your Love, Deuces and OMG were crowd pleasers at every event.

Overall, the weekend's promoters gave their patrons everything their party hearts could desire, coupled with a number of local celebrities and amazing fashion. Dream Weekend 2010 was definitely one to remember and will be surely be a topic of conversation until, of course, 2011. Maybe in next year's planning the promoters will be able to find larger venues where the same great vibe can please even more patrons. Whether or not they do, the Dream will live on.
