JAPANESE corporate conglomerate Sony launched its new audio line of mini-systems in Jamaica on July 12, 2012 at the Wyndham Hotel in Kingston.

The launch was titled 'Feel The Power Without Limits!' and the models featured on display were the MHC-GPX8, MHC-GPX7 and MHC-GPX5, collectively called the GPX Line. Not present at the launch however, but also released in Jamaica is the MHC-GPX3.

Sony chose Jamaica to launch the GPX line as the Latin American market is a fast-growing one for the company. The event was also used to prompt a relationship with Sony, the Jamaican public and the media.

Rene Morales — the senior sales manager of Sony's Latin American division located in San Juan, Puerto Rico — describes the aim of the GPX Line to create "the ambiance of a party in your house".

The first feature of these audio mini-systems includes luminous speakers with potent LEDs that can enable a staggering 10,000 colour combinations through 16 light patterns per speaker. This enables a club-like lighting experience against the backdrop of the music being played.

Another feature of the audio line is the Mica-Reinforced Cellular (MRC) Woofer that delivers a clear and sharp sound, providing a "great balance between bass and sound", according to Morales.

The GPX line also includes two USB ports that permit users to transfer music from one device to the other without the need of a PC, and the recording in MP3 format of any audio sound being played on the mini-system. In addition, the mini-systems have the DJ Effects feature that facilitates the manipulations of sounds and other disc jockey type effects.

Sony's GPX Line can be found at Courts and Singer stores islandwide.
