Teenage
Jamaica College ready to battle
Tuesday, March 16, 2010
IN the not-too-distant past, Jamaica College (JC) has tried to rewrite the Boys Champs script and claim a hold on the highly coveted title.
While always boasting about the quantity and quality of their athletes, Jamaica College are ready to drop the title of perennial underachievers. With this season being more open than those of previous years they may just hold the right cards to use the 100th anniversary of the Boys' Champs to stage their comeback.
Sprint coach Elton Coombs believes third place is 'outdated' and notes that the school that underestimates Jamaica College will do so to its own detriment. Coombs also pointed out that the problem of Jamaica College athletes falling in the relays has also been corrected and his team is willing to fight to the wire for the title.
Jamaica College is expected to rely heavily on the likes of Earl Grant, Waquar DaCosta and Ashani Wright, while Kavean Smith and Aaron Lee should also garner vital points for the boys from Old Hope Road.
Over the years, Waquar DaCosta has carried the mantle for the dark blues, but with Kavean Smith running one of the fastest 100m times this season and Ashani Wright's amazing performance at the recently concluded Carifta trials, the Jamaica College talent this season looks to be one full of great talent and potential.
