TEEN CHEF: Michi Shopping

AT times, it can be a time-consuming task to get the items on your grocery list. It is only natural to stand in the aisles with both hands occupied with items while you, with much difficulty, attempt to make a decision.

But what would you use to make your ultimate choice? Brand or cost? That question will be answered now with a few interesting shopping tips from TEENChef.

Tip #1:

Shopping List

It is a good idea to prepare a shopping list before going to the supermarket. A list can be created by looking around the kitchen to see what is finishing or what has finished. Do not buy what you already have especially if it is something that can spoil easily.

Tip #2:

Consider pricing

The amount you pay for an item is a very crucial part of shopping but most times we tend to not realise that the same items can cost different prices depending on how they packaged. It is only smart to spend the time to evaluate the prices for each item and make a reasonable and economical decision.

Tip #3:

Consider for whom you are shopping

As children and young adults attending school the society affects how we behave and some of our preferences. So, we would prefer to take pre-packed cheese bread to school rather than buying whole bread and pulling our home-made sandwich out of a foil paper. Ego can be a strong thing and it can determine our personality and behaviour.

Tip #4:

What's your preference?

If you are trying a product for the first time this is your opportunity to experiment on the varieties that are available. There is nothing wrong with sampling different flavours or types and utilise the price rate of buying three to get them at a 'wholesale price'.

Tip #5:

Buy what you want

It makes no sense to buy things only because they look pretty impressive to the eyes.

Fruits, for example, are usually pre-packed in supermarkets in different ways. Some may be packed with a variety of fruits in the form of a fruit salad and others may be packed individually.

There will be times when you may not like one of the fruits that is in the salad so do not buy it because of how colourful it is.

If you feel for a specific fruit it is best to purchase it individually packed rather than buying the entire salad and you only eat what you want and leave the rest to spoil or you dispose of the rest.

Tip #6:

Payment Method

Ensure you know how you will be paying for the items before you either go to the supermarket or go up to the cash register. It can be really embarrassing when you have to be putting back some or most of your items because you do not have enough money.

Using your debit card is another safe and easy way to pay for your items, other than cash, provided that you have enough money in your account.

It is not advised to use your credit card unless you are sure that you will have the money when the bill comes a month later.

Hopefully your next visit to the supermarket will be easier and will not take so long. Make your next shopping stop Michi Super Center, where you will not only enjoy the super-wide aisles and comfortable shelf-browsing, but also look out for their 'Jus A Bills' Promotion — where items with the 'Jus A Bills' sticker cost only $100. Economical, right?

Happy holidays and keep cooking with TEENChef for 2012 and beyond.
