TEEN Chef - Shish Kebabs
with Gavin Plowright
Tuesday, January 17, 2012
IT is sometimes a challenge — when we are hosting a party or some form of get-together — when you do not know what kind of fingerfood to offer your guests. This Shish Kebab just might be the solution.
The good thing is that it allows for a variety of meats, fruits or vegetables of your choice. The colours of the ingredients not only look good, but taste even better.
Shish Kebabs are perfect crowd-pleasers. It's a meal on a stick!
INGREDIENTS
11/2 lb beef tenderloin cut in 1 1/2" cubes
6 fl oz vegetable oil
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp honey
1/2 tsp curry powder
1 tsp salt
3 cloves garlic (minced)
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp basil
2 onions (quartered)
1 sweet pepper (green) diced
1 sweet pepper (yellow) diced
1 sweet pepper (red) diced
1 small pineapple, diced
8 kebab skewers (metal or bamboo)
METHOD
1 Wash, clean and cut vegetables.
2 In a bowl, blend honey, curry, salt, garlic, and herbs. Add meat and stir well.
3 Place in the refrigerator to marinate for two to four hours. Remove meat from marinade.
4 Skewer meat, onions, peppers and pineapples onto eight skewers.
5 Pan sear for seven to eight minutes, it should take about four minutes on either side. Serve with steamed or boiled rice.
NB: Do not attempt without parental supervision.
