This week's Tech 5
Tuesday, November 02, 2010
This week's Tech 5 is full of fun and interesting gadgets. Enjoy.
Boxee Box
The Boxee Box is a powerful multimedia player with access to Internet for television systems. Developed by D-Link Corporation, the black box was designed to become the intermediary between online multimedia content and television.
In order to achieve it, the Boxee Box has a remote control with a built-in QWERTY keyboard and multimedia centre which are used to operate the online browsing. This is possible through an Intel Atom CE4100 processor that allows to play 1080p content.
The device also has WiFi connection to the Internet and also comes with Ethernet, a HDMI port, two USB ports and a slot for MicroSD cards and can also play Flash 10.1, MP3, DivX and a long list of video formats.
Samsung Galaxy S2
The Samsung Galaxy S2 I9200 is a new smartphone that has a super-slim form factor and massive 4.3-inch screen with a super resolution of 1280-720.
The S2 I9200 features a two GHz processor, one GB RAM and four GB ROM and a Google Android 3.0 Gingerbread. Other specifications include a 32 GB of built-in storage, plus a microSD card slot with a 32 GB card and an eight megapixel camera with the ability to record full high definition video in 1080p.
Blio eReader
The Blio eReader is a smart online reader that has the ability to know all that enhances your reading experience. With the same layout as books — fonts, full-colour images — the eReader can read aloud to you with Blio highlighting each word as it goes, so you can follow along.
You can look up words you might not be familiar with or get more information on a topic by searching Google, Bing and more without leaving your book.
Blio allows you to highlight, take notes, add pictures and even web links to the notes section of each book, as well as offer ReadLogic, a feature that knows to automatically zoom and navigate to the next logical place in the book for you to read, whether it's the next paragraph, a caption or a sidebar.
Blio also offers the Blio BookVault, a virtual library that you can access from anywhere and let you start a book on one device and continue it from another, while saving your reading progress. It also features cookbooks, travel guides, how-to manuals, textbooks and children's books.
YoGen Charger
The YoGen Charger is a portable dynamo that can charge devices in about the same time it would take on a wall outlet. When you pull the string to get started, it turns a mini flywheel that produces a steady stream of power up to five watts and one minute of pulling is enough to charge a mobile phone.
Tenrehte PICOwatt Smart Plug
Tenrehte PICOwatt Smart Plug is a device that allows you to, through the use of a Wi-Fi-connected power outlet, turn items in your house on and off from any Internet-connected PC or iPhone via a custom applications.
A few strategically placed smart plugs, called Picowatt will then provide many of the benefits promised to consumers by the smart grid, including a read-out of electricity usage and the ability to control appliances from a central point.
By having data on electricity usage and the ability to take advantage of off-peak rates, people can make a significant reduction in consumption.
