Usain Bolt listed in top 100 richest sports persons
In Case U Missed It
According to Forbes Magazine, the world's fastest man - Usain Bolt, has over the past 12 months managed to collect a whopping US$1.8 billion landing him in the 63rd spot on their list of 100 richest sport personalities.
His US$20.3-million earnings makes him the only track and field athlete among the 100 highest-paid sports personalities.
The list accounts earnings between June 2011 and June 2012 with the bulk of Bolt's earnings coming from his numerous endorsement deals, with companies such as Puma, Hublot and Gatorade.
Adding to the list of endorsements, the track star has agreed to promote Japanese automakers Nissan Motors, and will be involved in the promotion of the 2012 Nissan GT-R. With this new deal and the Olympics in the next month, we can only wonder how much more he will be worth in a year or two.
Dispute over Jamaica 50 song
Following the release of the song On a Mission, which was produced by singer/songwriter Shaggy, many Jamaicans have raised concerns that the song is not appropriate to be labelled the official song of Jamaica 50. Some have expressed the fact that the single has no element of reggae, and sounds more like pop/techno - which is not of Jamaica; while others have raised brows at the amount of money spent on the project.
It is being said that Mikey Bennett's Find the Flag is better suited as the official Jamaica 50 song because of the variety of artistes on the track, as well as the more impacting lyrics.
There are some, too, who think the dispute holds little significance as there are other more pressing issues to be attended to.
However, the Jamaica 50 Secretariat claims that they did not intend nor did they select an official Jamaica 50 song. It is now being said that plans will be put in place for Jamaicans to vote for the song they think should be made the official Jamaica 50 song.
Kartel not guilty of drug charges
The self-proclaimed Worl' Boss, Adidjah Palmer, also known as Vybz Kartel, was found not guilty for his drug-related charges.
The artiste, who was charged in 2011 after being arrested at a hotel in new Kingston with three counterparts, pleaded not guilty after officers reportedly confiscated a small amount of ganja.
Kartel was found not guilty in the Corporate Area Criminal Court after no evidence was offered against him and another individual was charged in the matter.
He, however, will remain in custody on murder charges.
