'Chopped' Champion For Jamaica Food & Drink Festival

Thursday, October 12, 2017

The Food Network's Chopped champion Andre Fowles will be the guest chef at Picante on Friday, October 27. Picante forms part of the Jamaica Food & Drink Festival (JFDF) and Fowles promises a muy picante experience. “When I think of the origin of Picante, I think of Mexico!” he shared. “My menu is inspired by classic Mexican dishes and bold Jamaican flavours to bring it all together.”

Fowles, the executive chef at Miss Lily's in New York, considers JFDF a great thing for the local food scene. “It's a breath of fresh air and it offers real insight to our food, culture and people. Also, I am always excited to cook in Jamaica for my people. It is, too, a game-changer and a great way to boost tourism and introduce Jamaican food and culture to visitors to Jamaica.”

Jetting in to headline Picante for the Jamaica Food & Drink Festival also affords Fowles the opportunity to get his own fix by eating a lot of yard-style food!

Thursday Food shares an exclusive peek at his Picante menu — Malaysian Spiced Braised Beef Short Ribs with Mahogany Glaze, Toasted Shaved Coconut and Sushi Rice Balls, Habanero Lobster & Shrimp Cakes with Truffle Corn Bechamel and Crunch Scotch Bonnet Toffee, and affords readers an exclusive recipe.
