What an exceptional honour it was to receive the award for Leading Lady in Rum at the 21st annual Food Awards, presented by the Jamaica Observer . I always explain that when I travel for work, I am a Jamaican rum ambassador first, and the Hampden Estate Rum ambassador second. I feel like this award appreciates that, as it is acknowledging the work I have done thus far in the wonderful world of rum, helping to educate and raise the perception of the spirit internationally, while maintaining the authenticity of Jamaican rum. I look forward to releasing some of our estate-aged products in Jamaica in the very near future. To keep up with increasing demand, we are also about to construct a new aging facility at Hampden in Trelawny.

The night was made even sweeter with two prestigious awards being presented to our team at Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel. Our Executive Chef Kenard Swaby accepted the award for Best Culinary team, as did Frank Gilmore, maître d'; and Ruth Hussey, managing director, for Outstanding Service. These two awards are a welcome acknowledgment of our constant desire to maintain and improve our standards in an ever-increasing competitive environment. The timing couldn't have been more appropriate, as this coming week we will be celebrating 60 years of Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel. We're so proud to be able to continue to serve Kingston with the best gastronomic experience, and the best service. We would like to thank all our staff, who continue to set the bar so high. And of course, we would like to thank Novia McDonald-Whyte and the entire O-Team for another outstanding event! Cheers!
