Celebrating Fine Cuisine

Thursday, August 30, 2018

The Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association (JHTA) hosted its Celebration of Fine Jamaican Cuisines last Saturday at the historic Rose Hall Great House in Montego Bay. The event, now in its seventh year, is the association's premier fund-raiser and highly anticipated calendar item.

The evening' s elements included the best attraction, of course: several food stations serving up the best in food and drink from participating association members, live music, wine varietals from CPJ and the always-popular Appleton Estate bar.

Participating members included Holiday Inn Resort, with offerings that included curry seafood and spicy ackee pasta; and Tryall Club with roasted pig infused with fennel. Round Hill Hotel & Villas served up ice teas and escoveitch fish tacos and roasted lamb. Kenilworth Heart Academy provided a flambé station, whilst Hilton Rose Hall & Spa supplied assorted desserts. Rainforest Seafoods had shrimps and mussels and Deja Resort dished out interesting takes on local favourites including curry goat and gizzadas. There were soups from Goddard Catering Group, Secrets Resorts had jerk offerings, Half Moon Resort provided suckling pig, and RIU Hotels served up escoveitch fish and shrimp ceviche.

Creativity, taste and presentation were on show as participants went all-out in delivering the best offerings, which were were well received as all stations were kept busy during the evening. Deja Resort got several nods of approval for their coconut curry jackfruit with pineapple and vanilla ice cream. The pineapple flambé with ice cream and Appleton Estate Rum from Kenilworth Heart Academy also drew additional cheers.

Omar Robinson, president of the JHTA, said he was pleased with the turnout and that from all indications this year's target will be met.

“We had 500 patrons and we had originally set a target of $1.5m for this year and we are on track for achieving it. I really have to thank all our sponsors and participating members for putting on an excellent show; the reviews on the food and execution are extremely good,” Robinson stated.
