Great Food & Wines & Comforting Banana Fritters

Thursday, September 07, 2017

Jamaica Observer Table Talk Food Awards judge Annaliesa Lindsay, who had introduced me to The Wine Shop, seemingly forgot to mention the dessert options! But I digress. After an exceptional meal of grilled rack of lamb rosemary-marinated in garlic oil and basil mint sauce, with a side of saut é ed sweet potatoes and a glass of EVOI Cabernet Sauvignon Margaret River Australian 2014, I contemplated dessert but dreaded ordering anything. You know how it is after a great meal when dessert falls flat! Plus, I'm boycotting cheesecake on menus in Jamaica — save Colin Hylton's, of course.

Imagine my surprise when the offerings included banana fritters. Keeping my expectations in check, the made-to-order fritters were perfect — light, not too sweet, and just the right size. Another portion was immediately ordered since I stupidly offered to share... the second batch was equally good.

The Wine Shop is worthy of several visits. Certainly for the wines, but definitely for the food and banana fritters.

Thursday Food shares the lamb, the fritters, plus other menu options.
