Eight western Jamaica athletes were included in the list of 84 released by the Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association (JAAA) last week to represent the country at the Central American and Caribbean Junior track and field championships to be held in the Dominican Republic between July 2-4.
The team that is due to leave the island early next week was selected last week following the recent two- day National Junior Trials that was held at the GC Foster Sports College in Angels, St Catherine.
Herbert Morrison High's Seidatha Palmer who won the Under-20 girls 100m at Trials, returns to the team after participating in the IAAF World Youth Championships in Italy last year and will be joined by four St Elizabeth Technical athletes- hurdler Kimone Green, long and triple jumpers Opal James and Rochelle Farquharson and high jumper Peta-gay Reid.
Green Island's Odail Todd, Petersfield's Oshane Turner and STETHS' Davian Dennis who all made the CARIFTA Games in April have been selected for the meet.
The meet will see competition in two age groups Under-17 and Under-20 for both sexes.
At the most recent CAC meet held in Trinidad in 2006, Jamaica had topped the medal tables at the 2006 meet with 59 medals, 32 gold, 16 silver and 11 bronze, well ahead of second placed Mexico-42 and host Trinidad-39.
The core of this team is expected to form the majority of the team that will compete at the IAAF World Junior Championships to be held in Moncton, Canada next month.
