All Community Summer Football League heats up

MONTEGO BAY, St James - Four teams will this afternoon do battle to reach the final of the annual All Community Summer Football League which is scheduled for the Bogue playfield in St James on Sunday.

In the first semi- final game King Gate will face Unity Hall at the Bogue playfield, while Moy Hall lock horns with Catherine Hall at the same venue in the second encounter.

Moy Hall gained their semi- final place by defeating Young Strikers 4-3; King Gate beat New Ramble 2-1;Unity Hall clobbered Wales Pond 6-0; while Catherine Hall drubbed Tower Hill 4-1.

The winners of the league will be presented with a $50,000 cash prize along with the championship trophy; while the beaten finalist will pocket $20,000 along with a trophy.

The eight top teams will be presented with footballs.

The All Community Summer Football League is the brainchild of Paul Nelson, a Red Cap porter at the Sangster International Airport who has shouldered most of the sponsorship for the competition over the past 21 years.

According to Nelson, the competition was initiated in an effort to keep the youths in St James active during the holiday season.

"It is also intended to lure them from the temptation of getting involved in criminal activities," he added.
