LONDON, England - FORMER Cornwall College head boy Luke Williams was among the 8,000 inspirational persons who carried the Olympic Flame across the United Kingdon, ahead of the start of the Games this weekend in London.

The 46-year-old Williams who is Head of Media Studies and teacher of English at the Central Foundation Girls' School in Bow, attended Cornwall College between 1977 - 1984 and was Headboy 1983-1984. In London, he also serves as the London correspondent for RJR/TVJ News and is the CEO of Surfaturf, a global events and entertainment guide that supports travellers in planning their entertainment itinerary during their visit to any town/city in the world.

Williams told the Observer West that he was nominated by members of the Wanstead community and by students.

"The nomination was for transforming the results in Journalism and Media Studies from below 50 per cent to 100 per cent year on year over a five year period; for being a motivator and supporter for young people who were emotionally and socially vulnerable — including giving motivational talks at schools and clubs— and for having been voted most talented teacher," he explained.

Williams carried the flame through The London Borough of Redbridge on Sunday.
