MONTEGO BAY, St James - Twenty-eight students who are the children of employees of Caribbean Producers Jamaica Limited (CPJ), were awarded scholarships by the company totalling just over $1million, at an awards ceremony in Montego Bay last Thursday.

The recipients were selected on the basis of them attaining and maintaining an average of above 82 per cent during the last school year.

It was the 15th consecutive year that the food and beverage distribution company was extending financial support to the children of its employees.

The presentations were made by CPJ Directors, Mark Hart, Tom Tyler and Jan Polack at the company's head office in Montego Bay.

During their brief remarks, the directors encouraged the students to continue to work hard as they pursue their education goals.

"You have been doing very well at school and I am confident that you will continue to do well and in turn make your parents and CPJ very proud. I want you to draw from the experiences that you have been through so far in your school life as you plan to take on the new school year. CPJ is very pleased to again be reaching out to you as we see this as part of our corporate responsibility," Hart told the recipients.

Meanwhile, Tyler urged the students to draw inspiration from the outstanding performances by the Jamaican athletes at the London Olympic Games.

"Students you have been shining examples to us here at CPJ and I am sure you will continue along that track. I know that you have been enjoying the performance of the Jamaican athletes at the London Olympics and I am encouraging you to draw inspiration from that. These athletes did not just win or perform well without hard work, dedication and commitment....please commit yourselves to do well at school," said Tyler.

At the recently concluded Olympic Games Jamaica won 12 medals—four gold, four silver and three bronze.
