LITTLE LONDON, Westmoreland — SOME $2.6 million is being spent by Member of Parliament for Western Westmoreland Dr Wykeham McNeil to transform the Little London Square, under the MP's Township Development Programme.
Work on the project — being funded from McNeil's Community Development Fund (CDF) — began last month and should be completed within the next four weeks.
The scope of the works include painting of buildings, construction and repairs to retaining walls and the rehabilitation of the drainage system.
McNeil told the Observer West yesterday that the next phase of the project will see the planting of trees and ornamental plants, as well as the erection of signs.
He noted that last year some $7 million was allocated from his CDF to upgrade the town of Grange Hill, under the programme.
"The plan is to transform four town centres in my constituency," the MP said.
"Already we have done Grange Hill, which is the second largest town in the parish; now we are doing Little London Square and then we will move to Sheffield and Negril."
McNeil said since the programme began in 2008, he has been congratulated by a number of persons.
"People are buying into it. They have been calling and saying that the upgraded areas look good, and the business operators are now upgrading their establishments because they now recognise that we have to make the place look good," said the MP.
