Father and daughter cocaine case postponed

By PAUL A REID Observer West writer

Thursday, December 29, 2011

MONTEGO BAY, St James — THE case involving an 81-year-old man and his daughter, who were charged with trying to export over five pounds of cocaine in March this year, has been postponed until April.

The case was set for mention on April 23, at the request of the lawyers representing the accused persons, when it was called up in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court last week Monday.

Derrick Hall of Cave Valley, St Ann, and his 56-year-old daughter, an insurance inspector with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, were each granted bail in the sum of $250,000.

The gentleman was arrested at the Sangster International Airport in March, after eight packages of white powdery substance resembling cocaine were found in two bags he had checked in.

His daughter was later held, after the father told police she had packed his bags.

The court heard that the elder Hall was being processed to board a flight to Canada when the bags were searched and four packages were found in each of the two bags, weighting a total of five-and-a-half pounds.
