Gun license office opened in Mobay
MONTEGO BAY, St James--A branch of the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) opened in this resort city yesterday, much to the pleasure of members of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) who have over the years consistently lobbied for the facility in western Jamaica.
The branch is located at the ATL Shopping Complex in the Bogue area of Montego Bay.
" We are extremely happy that finally the calls of the Chamber have been responded to and citizens now have the opportunity to renew and apply for firearm licenses outside of Kingston," President of the MBCCI said yesterday.
Nathan Robb, chairman of the MBCCI's Justice and Security Committee said the new branch of the FLA is conveniently located to serve western Jamaica .
" This has alleviated the source of hardship for many including many female and elderly citizens from as far as Negril and other places," Robb noted.
Two months ago Minister of National Security Peter Bunting promised that the facility would have been opened by the end of last month during his address to members of the business sector at a forum held at the headquarters of the MBCCI.
MBCCI President Davon Crump had spearheaded the calls from the business sector in western Jamaica for the establishment of the office in Montego Bay.
Crump argued then, that a regional FLA office in Montego Bay would "prevent the inefficiency, security risk, gross inconvenience, and totally unnecessary costs and expense suffered by too many people including women, who must journey all the way to Kingston, simply to renew or apply for a firearm licence".
