MONTEGO BAY, St James - DESPITE having home field advantage, Irwin Primary came up just short in the Lime INSPORT Primary schools' all-island football final on Friday at Jarrett Park, losing 2-1 to Kingston's Holy Family and Infant School.
Even with a large crowd cheering them on Irwin Primary conceded two quick goals midway the second half.
In the first game of the double-header Holland Primary of St Elizabeth beat Yallahs of St Thomas 2-0 in the third place play-offs.
Rujay Robinson in the 35th minute and Daniel Ambursley in the 45th minute scored for Holland.
In the finals, both teams played out a 0-0 first half, but Irwin was forced to make a change after goalkeeper Brandon Hunter became ill and was substituted early in the second half.
Holy Family, the Kingston champions took advantage and Jahmal Anglin fired a shot past substitute Morgan Gordon in the 47th minute and Horace Ramsay made it 2-0 three minutes later.
A brilliant goal from Cal-Wayne Allen in the 55th minute when he curled a corner left footed into the far corner, to trim to lead to one goal, gave the St James team hope of at least forcing extra time.
However, even with three extra minutes from referee Michael' Bunny' Marshall, Irwin Primary could not close the gap.
