MONTEGO BAY, St James — Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights will face Sav Hawks on Sunday in what could be the most competitive of the three games scheduled for this weekend as the return round of the Western Basketball Association's Division One league continues.
Knights and Granville Wolfpack are tied on 13 points in third place behind leaders Central Flames (16 points) and Hopewell Vipers (15 points) while Hawks who forfeited their second game of the season on Saturday when they failed to show up against Flames are next on 12 points.
Sav had beaten Knights by six points 71-65 in their first round game but the Sheldon Pearson-coached Montego Bay based club will be gunning for revenge, especially after coming off a loss to Hopewell two weeks ago.
In Saturday's only game, leaders Flames should get the better of Jnr Avalanche after beating them 81-49 in the first round while in the first game on Sunday Vipers will start favorites to get the better of Granville.
In the only game played last weekend, Hopewell Vipers came from behind to score a hard fought over-time 59-57 win over the improving Trelawny Tornadoes at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on Sunday.
After beating the Trelawny team by 13 points in the first round, Hopewell had to come form behind to earn a 50-50 tie at the end of regulation, forcing an extra period.
Flames who got a walk-over win after Sav Hawks failed to show up on Saturday, leads with 16 points, one more than Vipers, both from nine games played.
Granville Wolfpack who got their second walk-over win of the season when Junior Avalanche failed to field a team is on 13 points, same as Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights, but has played one game more.
Led by Fitzroy Gordon who had a double-double 14 points and 15 rebounds, Trelawny who won the first game of the season the previous round, led 14-12 after the first period, 29-28 at half time and 42-38 after three periods.
Vipers however rallied in the final quarter, outscoring Tornadoes 12-8 to force over-time before winning by two points.
Dwight Reid led Vipers with a game high 23 points while Gavin Forbes scored 12 points.
Antoniel Watson and Melville Hanshaw both scored eight points to compliment Gordon on the Trelawny team.
