Thursday, September 06, 2012

MONTEGO BAY, St James — ANDY Clarke's extra-time goal gave Rebels Strikers a 1-0 win over defending champions Barber Joe in the finals of the Flanker Community Corner League football game played at the Flanker playfield last Sunday night.

Clarke's goal came in the second half of extra-time after both teams remained locked 0-0 at the end of regulation time.

The winners left the game on Sunday night $100,000 richer after they collected cash prize along with the championship trophy; while the losing finalists collected $50,000 for their efforts.

The competition was largely sponsored by Member of Parliament for North West St James (JLP), Dr Horace Chang and JLP councillor for the Flanker division, Charles Sinclair.

The competition started on June 17 with 17 teams playing in a round robin format.

Rebel Strikers gained their berth to the finals by defeating Bronx 2-1 in the semis, while Barber Joe had the better of Roma 3-0.

Sunday night's game was played under the lights provided by Ward's Power Tools.
